Reviews

Bare, Country Playhouse, June 2008:
Houston Press - "Director O'Dell Hutchison lovingly focuses the youngsters, giving them room to breathe, while music director Luke Kirkwood, with the most minimal of orchestras, keeps the whole thing fresh, snapping and in-your-face."

Thoroughly Modern Millie, Texas Repertory Theatre, July-August 2009:
Chron.com, Buzz Bellmont - "Luke Kirkwood is the Music Director and Conductor and does an excellent job pacing the show. He conducts the Millie Orchestra and also excellently plays the keyboard. His support team features Ray Gonzales on Reeds, Edgar Jaime on Trumpet, Brian Logan on Trombone, and Adam Wolfe on Percussion."

Little Shop of Horrors, Texas Repertory Theatre, October 2009:
Houston Press - "This is the way a musical's supposed to be: pepped up, slickly paced and gloriously acted, with all the little details thought out completely. Hats off to director Craig Miller, conductor Luke Kirkwood, actors Joshua Estrada, Blythe Kirkwood, Matthew Wade and Steven Fenley, and puppet creators Elliott Jordan, Joshua Clark and Daniel Roberts, who gave life to a really bad-ass blood sucker."

The Who's Tommy, The Humphrey's School of Musical Theatre, September 2010:
Chron.com, Buzz Bellmont - John L. Cornelius’ magnificent musical direction made the show sizzle and dazzle. Cornelius mightily and masterfully conducted the band with perfect tempos and just the right amount of loudness, never overwhelming the onstage voices. Cornelius and Luke Kirkwood tore up the keyboards. Guitar players Mike Wheeler and Robert Wolf created some great guitar riffs.  Patrick Kelly killed the drums.  Gerald Massoud played a rockin’ bass.

Plaid Tidings, Texas Repertory Theatre, November-December 2010:
Houston Press - "Musical direction and piano playing by Luke Kirkwood is amazing. This is the busiest and most complex score I have experienced in awhile and Mr. Kirkwood sails through his superb accompaniment as if he were playing something as simple as "Blue Moon.”

Smokey Joe's Cafe, Texas Repertory Theatre, August 2011:
Chron.com -    "Musical director Luke Kirkwood does a remarkable job leading the fabulous six man band from behind his kickass keyboard".
